Roads were gridlocked for four hours between Torquay and Teignmouth after an accident in which a cyclist suffered a serious head injury in a collision with a Transit van on Tuesday morning.
The accident closed Shaldon Bridge and the main A379 Torquay to Teignmouth Road in both directions for several hours.
Police said there was total gridlock in back lanes around Watcombe, Maidencombe and Stokeinteignhea.
It is understood the cyclist collided with the back of a Ford Transit at 8.07am. The road was re-opened at about 11.50am.
