We walk on the earth, live from it and build our homes on it and yet many of our homes were built not with our environment in mind but usually with only one consideration: cost.
The buildings that now constitute our schools, hospitals and homes might be suitable from purely a commercial point of view, but not always from an ecological or sustainability point of view. More and more people are slowly waking up to the fact that sustainability is now the key consideration facing us. Furthermore, sustainability affects commercial viability, particularly when we take short term gains out of the equation.
Although we cannot always influence the decision of a hospital’s building we can, however, make decisions about our own houses when we build them and ensure that the building is suitable for us, our surroundings and our next generations.
Doug Palmer from the Maidencombe Community Group travels to Cornwall to learn how to build ecological and sustainable houses … and, as we find out from the video these buildings are not only incredibly cost effective but also beautiful too.
Renowned architect and present, Kevin McCloud from “Grand Designs”, presents this short video which lays out some of the key points why one should take a fresh look at sustainable buildings.
This video provides facts, figures, history and beautiful examples.
